Allen sweeps sprints, breaks 100 meters record

 

State Meet Highlights - RESULTS

 

William Allen made sure his final state high school track meet was a memorable one. 

 

The senior from Paul Dubar recorded four wins at the University of Kentucky Outdoor Track Facility in Lexington, leading his team to a runner-up 3A finish with 61 points. Henry Clay won with 65 points.

 

- Allen was impressive from start to finish in the two-day meet. He won the 100 dash in 10.42, breaking the all-time state record (wind-legal) held by Casey Combest since 1999. It also broke Tyson Gay's 2001 state meet record of 10.46. Allen also won the 200 (21.04) and 400 (47.39) and ran on the winning 4x400 relay (3:21.62). 

 

- On the girls side, Male's Taliyah Townsend  was not to outdone. The senior led her team to a 3A state title, dominating the sprints and winning the 100 (11.95), 200 (24.63) and 400 (55.46). 

 

- In the 3A field events, sophomore Jaci Bickett of Henderson County won the pole vault by beating Lafayette junior  Kristina Leggas. Both cleared 12-6, breaking the all-time state best, but Bickett missed on fewer attempts.   

 

- Butler senior  Alexis Gibbons  recorded a 3A meet record in the long jump by going 19-9.25. 

 

- Lafayette senior Ladon Young recorded the farthest discus throw (177-7) to win the 3A crown.

 

- The 3A 4x800 Central Hardin relay team of Jeremiah Hardin, Josiah Harp, Patrick Quire and Christian Wright ran 7:50.03 for a state meet record. Wright also won the 800 (1:52.31).

 

- Senior Jaron Brooks of Henry Clay was a double winner in the 3A jumps, winning the high jump (6-10) and long jump (23-4.25) to help his team win the championship.

 

- Junior Yared Nuguse of Dupont Manual won the boys 3A 1,600 title (4:12.10). 

 

- Tanner Dowdy won the 3,200 (9:23.05), while Emma Kuntz of Dupont Manual won the 800 (2:14.31).

 

- In 2A action, Lily Lowe of Calloway County cleared 5-8.50 to win the high jump. 

 

- Senior Mikayla Reichert of Highlands won the shot put (37-2) and discus (125-3). 

 

- Camille Mangold of Lexington Catholic claimed the 2A pole vault, clearing 12-0.25.

 

- In 1A, Murray junior Grace Campbell led her team to a state title as she won the high jump (5-6), triple jump (35-6.25) and 300 hurdles (47.75). 

 

- In boys action, Lexington Christian beat out Holy Cross 64-63 for the team title. 

 

- Murray senior Peyton Glynn won the 400 (49.78) and ran on the winning 4x100 (42.95) that set a 1A record.
