Cade Flatt Wins 400/800 Double And Anchors Two Winning Relays

Cade Flatt's mission to break the national high school record in the 800 meters was put on hold for a week as the Marshall County star went to the Kentucky state championship meet in Lexington focused on delivering team points. 

Flatt, who is No. 2 all-time in the 800 meters, won two events and anchored two winning relays for his team, which finished third. He won the 400 in 47.66 seconds and the 800 in 1:52.93 and also helped his teammates run 3:19.65 in the 4x400 relay and 7:58.45 in the 4x800. 

St. Xavier won its third straight boys state championship, which included a distance double from Sami Hattab, who ran 4:13.44 to win the 1,600 meters and 9:22.50 in the 3,200 meters. 

Louisville Male senior Jaylen Cole was the state's dominant sprinter, winning the Class 3A 100 meters in 10.50 and the 200 in 21.04. He also anchored the winning 4x200 relay. 

Wyatt Stewart from Madison Central won the boys pole vault by making 16-3. 

Dupont Manual racked up huge points in the sprints on the way to the 3A girls team title. Freshman Alexandra Allen and senior teammate Ruby Nwosu went 1-2 in the 100, 200 and 400 final for 54 of the team's 117 points. They were also part of the winning 4x400 relay (3:57.58) and the team also won the 4x100 and 4x200 relays without them. 

Ciara O'Shea from Madison Central won the 1,600 meters in 4:52.67 and the 3,200 meters in 10:32.83.

Brooklyn Hammons from Grant County swept the 3A shot put and discus titles. 

Mercer County swept the Class 2A team titles and it was a repeat for the boys. 

Beau Brown won the 200 meters in 21.74 and finished a close second to Paducah Tilghman's Luke Birdsong in a photo finish in the 100 as both sprinters were timed in 10.70w. 

Brown was also on the winning 4x100 relay and the second-place 4x200 relay. Jalen Lukitsch swept the hurdles with 15.36/40.43. Lleyton Penn won the shot put and Matthew Mays won the triple jump. 

JB Terrill of Boys County won the 800 final in 1:54.02. Lane Hoyes and Riku Sugie finished 1-2 in both the 1,600 meters and 3,200 meters for Thomas Nelson High. 

Chase Burkhart of Garrard County won the high jump by clearing 6-8.  

For the Mercer County girls, Timberlynn Yeast ran an impressive double to win the 200 (24.45) and 400 (56.81) and she was also second in the 100 (12.15). Shavi Kennedy from Franklin County won the 100 in 12.11.

Jai Maria Piazza won the 100 hurdles (15.44) and took second in the 300 hurdles (46.08). She was part of the winning 4x400 relay, along with Yeast. 

Molly Wise of  Boyle County won the 2A girls long jump (17-10.5) and triple jump (36-6.75). 

Paris teammates Taesha Speaks and Briley Cline went 1-2 in the 100 meters final and the 200 meters final, but it was not enough to overcome Bishop Brossart, which retained the Class 1A girls team title with 104 points. 

Lexi Braun won the 400 meters for Brossart and was part of th winning 4x100 and 4x400 relays, as well as second in the 4x400 relay. Brossart also won the 4x800 and Chloe Hein won the long jump and was third in the 100 and 200. 

Malik Blunt led Fort Knox to the boys team title with his victories in the 100 (10.74), 200 (22.09) and 400 (49.23). Teammate Tristin Griffin was second in the 400 and third in the 100 and 200.

Class 1A - Fort Knox boys 71 points, Bishop Brossart girls 104 points - RESULTS
