William Allen sizzles with 21.24/47.07 double
State Meet Highlights
Top Performances:
- William Allen of Paul Dunbar broke the all-time state best mark in the 400 meters with 47.09 in the 3A final and ran a sizzling US#36 21.24 to beat 100 meters champ Austin Hayes (21.36). Allen was also second in the 100 and anchored Dunbar’s winning 4x400 relay (3:21.02).
- Henry Clay junior Jaron Brooks won the Class 3A high jump (6-10), triple jump (47-9.25) and long jump (22-10.25).
- Brooke Raglin, a sophomore from Bryan Station, pushed her team toward the state title by placing second in the 100 meters (11.96) and 200 meters (24.74) and she also part of winning 4x100 and 4x200 relays.
- Senior Ben Young of Tates Creek won the 3A boys 1,600 in 4:10.15.
- Emma Kuntz, a sophomore from Dupont Manual, won the 3A 800 meters in 2:12.69 and also anchored the winning 4x400 relay.
- Christian Wright, a junior from Central Hardin, won the 3A 800 meters in 1:52.66.
- Junior Cole Dowdy of South Oldham won the 3A 3,200 meters in 9:15.74.
- Alexis Gibbons of Butler, a junior, won the 3A girls long jump with 18-9.25.
- St. Xavier’s boys broke the state meet record in the 4x800 relay with 7:51.09.
- Senior Lilli Popovich of Christian Academy threw an all-time state record 142-2 to win the 2A discus.
- Ethan Shuley from Highlands dominated the 2A distance races. The junior won the 1,600 in 4:18.81 and the 3,200 in 9:29.28.
- Nicole Moeller of North Oldham, a sophomore, ran 56.62 to win the 2A 400 meters. She was also on the winning 4x200 and 4x400 relay teams and placed second in the 200 meters (25.58).
- Quinton Baker, a junior from Ashland Blazer, claimed 2A titles in the 100 meters (10.79) and the 200 (21.95), recalling to mind his father Al Baker’s small-school state titles in 1985 and 1986 for Trigg County.
- Tymeitha Tolbert of Waggener tied the 2A meet record in the 100 meters with 12.20 and also won the 200 with 25.51.
- Junior Lily Lowe from Calloway County went 5-8 to win the 2A high jump and she also won the 300 hurdles (47.16) and the long jump (17-2.25).
- Dascha Hix from Fort Campbell broke the 2A meet record in the pole vault with 11-6 and took three attempts at 12-1 to shoot for the overall state meet record.
- Highlands and North Oldham both broke the 2A meet record in the 4x800. Highlands was first in 8:07.08 with Ethan Shuley on the anchor leg. North Oldham was second in 8:07.74.
- Nicole Goderwis of Bishop Bossart broke the 1A meet record in the 400 meters with 56.95 seconds. She also won the 200 with 25.83.
- Caroline Gosser from Presentation broke the 1A meet record in the 3,200 meters with 10:55.11. She stripped seven seconds off the record.
- Eric Baugh from Villa Madonna won the 1A 800 meters (1:55.87), the 1,600 (4:26.97) and placed third in the 3,200 (10:09.94).
- Grace Campbell, a sophomore from Murray, won the 1A high jump at 5-8, won the long jump at 17-10.25, placed second in the 300 hurdles, and was on the fourth place 4x400 relay.
- Connor Messer from Raceland broke the 1A meet record in the pole vault (14-7.25) and also won the long jump and high jump.
- The Murray boys broke the 1A meet record in the 4x100 relay with 43.13.
Top Teams:
Top Competition: The 3A boys 100 meters was a barn-burner with the top four finishers all within a tenth of a second. That group included two brothers. Austin Hayes of South Laurel leaned for the win in 10.76 seconds. Right with him was William Allen of Paul Dunbar (second in 10.77), Davonte Robinson of Henry Clay (third in 10.82) and DeQuan Robinson of Henry Clay (fourth in 10.86).
Record-breaker: William Allen went on from the state meet to lower his all-time Kentucky best in the 400 meters to 46.77 at U.S. Juniors, where he finished fourth.
